Post subject: Independent developing for Wii |
|
|
I read an article on IGN that the Virtual Console will allow for independent development teams to develop games for the Wii.
"The fact that no production costs are needed means that potentially anyone anywhere could develop for the system without the need for advertising, or even a publisher for that matter. We'll always have blockbuster games that require huge teams and tremendous budgets, but Nintendo's view on the Virtual Console could also ensure that developers who are still devoted to the more classic approach can still make a pretty penny and continue to master their craft even after next generation arrives."
I was thinking of maybe putting a dev team together to make a game for it, I have a friend whos a game designer and I'm some what of a concept artist. I was just wondering if anyone would be interested at all in learning to do some programming for it. It said, "Whether Nintendo will allow for some type of homebrew kit, a smaller (and cheaper) development kit for just Virtual Console." It's just something I was thinking would be cool, if anyone has more information on it I would like to hear it. |

That's fantastic. I actually think Nintendo releases an SDK (software development kit) with every platform that allows you to communicate with different parts of the hardware, like the controller... it shouldn't be too hard.
Have any ideas for what type of game you're going to make? |

I just found this related article:
http://wii.ign.com/articles/690/690730p1.html
| Quote: | | Nintendo itself has not yet commented on a Revolution price point, except to confirm that it would sell for less than $299. However, if the price of Revolution development hardware is any indication, the system could be very cheap indeed. Studios tell IGN that Revolution SDKs sell for about $2,000, which is thousands of dollars cheaper than a PSP SDK, let alone an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 one. |
$2,000 for the SDK. Good price for an SDK, but still a lot. |

| Nice article, appearantly $2,000 is cheap for SDK o__o. It's also interesting to see that it might release for $150, but I think thats really doubtful (it would only be $20 more than the DSL hehe). I guess I'll have to keep my ears open closer to the launch to find out if there is a cheaper way to develop for it. |
